Classes

Assignments are by age and previous training. Group Classes are offered contingent upon adequate numbers of students registered and are based on a 32-week season, one hour weekly.

Fundamentals of Music: Ages 9-18

Essential to music instruction, Fundamentals of Music offers theory and ear training at all levels. Students receive a comprehensive education in the fundamentals that includes notation, scales, intervals, triads, musical terminology, transposition, harmony and counterpoint which assists them in all of their musical studies.
Tuition: $210 for students enrolled in Individual Instruction or additional classes

Music Workshop: Ages 4-9

Music literacy and skill development through creative expression, body movement, songs and specially designed instruments and recorder. Based on Orff and Kodaly methods, which have been influential around the world.

Advanced Music Workshop : Ages 8-10

Beginning theory skills, with strong emphasis on ear training, rhythm and movement. Includes improvisation and composition. Based on advanced Music Workshop concepts.
Tuition: $240 for students enrolled in Individual Instruction or additional classes
Tuition: $465 if it is the only class registered

Pre-woodwind Preparatory Class: Ages 6-9

Students too young to play woodwinds are taught introductory techniques on the recorder through learning breath and fingering control, and note reading.

Introduction to Singing : Ages 12-13

Introduction to voice study as a preparation for Individual Instruction. Breath control, note reading, diction, performance practice and musicianship included.

Percussion Construction: Music with Mommy, Daddy and Me: Ages 5-7

Learn basic rhythms that are the building blocks of your child's musical experience. Percussion class for a parent and child that includes exploring rhythmic development, instrument recognition, and improvisation. This classes prepares both parent and child for Individual Instruction by providing a basic framework for learning in the arts. 30 minute weekly class.

Percussion Ensemble (Drums): Ages 10-18

Rehearse techniques including rhythm, hand/foot coordination, stick control, pitch recognition and improvisation. Percussion Ensemble provides an opportunity for percussionists to play and learn the array of instruments percussion study can offer.

World Rhythms: Ages 12-18
Have fun exploring the rhythms of Africa, South America and the Caribbean on exotic instruments such as the Djembe, Djun Djun, Shekere and Talking Drum. No experience necessary.

Rock Band: Ages 12-18

For students who play drums, electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and for vocalists and song writers. Students form bands, record original works, play a live performance and learn all aspects of producing and playing jazz, blues, and rock music with a group. Faculty members are professional teacher-artists.

Dance

Settlement's Dance Program provides study in Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz and Modern Dance. Offering boys and girls the opportunity for physical and artistic expression, and pre-professional training, the program emphasizes proper body alignment, healthy physical development and the integration of music and dance. As students progress through the program, they will follow a carefully developed, sequential course of study that includes performance opportunities. All classes are arranged according to level and age.

Classical Ballet: Ages 4-18

Complete program of classical ballet technique and style. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes offered.

Modern & Jazz Dance: Ages 10-18

Expressive movement, improvisation and physical coordination. Classes arranged according to level and age.
