Classes

Assignments are by age and previous training. Group Classes are offered contingent upon adequate numbers of students registered and are based on a 32-week season, one hour weekly.

Suzuki Violin and Suzuki Cello and Suzuki Piano: Ages 4 and Over

World famous method for beginning string and piano study. All teachers are specially trained in the method. Participation of one parent is required. Weekly individual lesson required in addition to class.  Informal workshops scheduled periodically throughout the year supplement required weekly individual lessons.

Suzuki Guitar: Ages 5 and over

Suzuki training adapted for the guitar. Specially trained teachers work with students and parents in individual and class lessons.

Children's Music Workshop: Ages 4-12

Music literacy and skill development through creative expression, body movement, songs and specially designed instruments and recorder. Based on Orff and Kodaly methods.

Introduction to Fundamentals: Ages 8-12

Beginning theory skills, with strong emphasis on ear training, rhythm and movement. Includes improvisation and composition. Based on advanced Music Workshop concepts. Available at a reduced fee to students enrolled in individual instruction, and at no charge to students receiving financial aid or scholarships.

Fundamentals of Music: Ages 10 and over

Basic music theory: notation, scales, intervals, triads, musical terminology, transposition, harmony and counterpoint. At all levels. Available at a reduced fee to students through ages 18 (age 23 for voice) enrolled in individual instruction, and at no additional charge to students receiving financial aid or scholarships.

Troubadour Harp: Ages 9 and over

Introduction to harp study, stressing parental involvement and performance. Individual and group instruction. All students enrolled must have their own harp for practice and class use. At lease one year of piano preferred for group instruction.

Recorder Group: Ages 6 and over

Introductory work with the oldest instrument still in use. Ideal for beginners, amateurs and those with experience. Semi-private lesson limited to four per half-hour class.

Group Percussion (Drums): Ages 10 and over

Basic techniques including rhythm, hand/foot coordination, stick control, pitch recognition and improvisations. Semi-private lesson limited to four per half-hour class.

Taiko Drumming: Ages 8 and over

Traditional Japanese drumming that uses specially designed drums and incorporates stylized movement that adds a visual component to the performance experience.

Modern & Jazz Dance: Ages 4-18 and Adults

Expressive movement, improvisation and physical coordination. Classes arranged according to level and age.

Classical Ballet: Ages 4-18 and Adults

Complete program of Classical Ballet technique and style. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes offered.

Small Group Instruction

Offered to beginning students in brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, guitar and choice. These classes serve as a preparatory step for students interested in taking individual instruction. Four students, matched by age, share a one-hour lesson and split the cost. Classes meet once per week during 12-week semesters in the fall and spring and twice weekly during the 6-week summer session.
